Thomas Sandford

Thomas Sandford (* 1762 in Westmoreland County , Colony of Virginia , †  December 10, 1808 in Covington , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1803 and 1807 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The exact date of birth of Thomas Sandford is not known. He received a good education and took part in the War of Independence as a soldier . After the war, he moved to Covington, later Kentucky, where he worked in agriculture. Politically, Sandford became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In 1799 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the Kentucky Constitution. Between 1800 and 1802 he was a member of the State Senate . He was then a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1802 .

In the congressional election of 1802 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the then newly established constituency of Kentucky , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1803. After re-election in 1804, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1807 . During his tenure as Congressman in 1803, the Louisiana Purchase made by President Jefferson, the United States was significantly expanded. In 1804 the twelfth amendment was ratified.

Thomas Sandford drowned on December 10, 1808 near Covington in the Ohio River .
