David Grant Colson

David Grant Colson (born April 1, 1861 in Middlesboro , Bell County , Kentucky , †  September 27, 1904 there ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1899 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Colson attended public schools in his home country and in neighboring Tennessee . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Kentucky at Lexington and his admission to the bar in 1880, he began to work in Pineville in this profession. Between 1882 and 1886 Colson served in the Pensions Department of the US Department of the Interior in Washington, DC . In 1887 he returned to Kentucky, where he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

He was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1887 and 1888 . From 1893 to 1895 he was mayor of the city of Middlesboro. In the congressional elections of 1894 Colson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the eleventh constituency of Kentucky, where he succeeded Silas Adams on March 4, 1895 . After a re-election in 1896, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1899 . From 1897 he was chairman of the committee for the control of expenditure on public properties. The Spanish-American War of 1898 , in which Colson participated as a colonel in a regiment from Kentucky , also fell during his time as a congressman .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, David Colson hit the headlines on January 16, 1900, when he shot three men in a gunfight in Frankfort in a feud with a fellow officer from the war . Nothing is known about any legal consequences from this matter. Davis Colson died on September 27, 1904 in his native Middlesboro.
