Bryan Rust Young

Bryan Rust Young (born January 14, 1800 in Bardstown , Nelson County , Kentucky , †  May 14, 1882 in Elizabethtown , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1847 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bryan Young was a younger brother of William Singleton Young (1790-1827), who also represented the state of Kentucky in Congress between 1825 and 1827 . He was also an uncle of Governor John Young Brown (1835-1904), who sat between 1859 and 1877 twice for Kentucky as a member of the US House of Representatives.

Young attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at the University of Louisville . After a subsequent medical degree and his license as a doctor, he began to work in Nelson County in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Whig Party . In the congressional election of 1844 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Democrat James W. Stone on March 4, 1845 . By March 3, 1847, he completed a legislative period there that was shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Young returned to work as a doctor. Between 1858 and 1864 he was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives on several occasions . He died on May 14, 1882 in Elizabethtown.
