Rothmann is an impact crater on the front of the moon southwest of the Mare Nectaris , southwest of the Piccolomini crater and northeast of Lindenau , west of the Rupes Altai . The crater rim is irregularly shaped and little eroded, the inside is uneven and has concentric structures.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German mathematician and astronomer Christoph Rothmann .
