Rupes Altai is a terrain level located in the southeast quadrant of the front of the moon . Its selenographic coordinates are 24 ° S and 23 ° E. The length of the formation is 550 km.
The southeastern end of the cliff begins at the western edge of Piccolomini crater . From there it extends in an irregular arc to the north, reaching a height of almost one kilometer . The arch ends in the north in an irregular area with no clear boundaries, which is bordered by the striking craters Theophilus , Cyrillus and Catharina . Rupes Altai forms the southwestern boundary of the Mare Nectaris impact basin .
The structure is difficult to see during the full moon phase, because then the sun is at its zenith . They are best seen when the terminator is nearby and the sunlight is falling at a shallow angle.
