Sherrod Williams

Sherrod Williams (* 1804 in Pulaski County , Kentucky , †  November 1, 1876 in San José , California ) was an American politician . Between 1835 and 1841 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Sherrod Williams came to Wayne County early on with his parents . He received only a limited education and then worked in Monticello in the manufacture of bricks. After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career.

Williams joined the opposition to President Andrew Jackson and became a member of the Whig Party after it was founded . Between 1829 and 1834 he was an MP in the Kentucky House of Representatives . In the congressional election of 1834 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Martin Beaty on March 4, 1835 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1841 . From 1839 he was chairman of the pension committee.

In 1840, Williams waived another congressional candidacy. In 1846 he was re-elected to the state parliament. He died in San José on November 1, 1876.
