Aylette Buckner

Aylette Buckner (born July 21, 1806 in Greensburg , Kentucky , †  July 3, 1869 in Lexington , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Aylette Buckner, son of Congressman Richard Aylett Buckner (1763–1847), attended New Athens Seminary . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Greensburg. Politically, he became a member of the Whig Party . He was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1842 and 1843 .

In the congressional elections of 1846 Buckner was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Joshua Fry Bell on March 4, 1847 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat George Caldwell in the following elections , he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1849 . During this time the Mexican-American War ended . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Buckner moved to St. Louis , Missouri , where he practiced as a lawyer. In 1864 he returned to Lexington. He died there on July 3, 1869.
