Robert Ludwell Yates Peyton

Robert Ludwell Yates Peyton (born February 8, 1822 in Loudoun County , Virginia , †  September 3, 1863 in Bladon Springs , Alabama ) was an American politician . He represented the state of Missouri during the Civil War as a Senator in the Confederate Congress .

Peyton's political career began shortly before the outbreak of the Civil War. In 1858 he was elected to the Missouri Senate. After the start of the war he was a deputy in the Provisional Confederate Congress ; this was followed by the election to the first Confederate Congress . There he was one of Missouri's two representatives in the Senate.

Robert Peyton also served in the Confederate Army , where he held the rank of Colonel . In the defense of Vicksburg ( Mississippi ) he contracted malaria ; he died of these consequences on September 3, 1863.
