Edward Sparrow

Edward Sparrow (born December 29, 1810 in Dublin , † July 4, 1882 ) was a prominent politician of the Confederate States of America .

Career

Edward Sparrow was born on December 29, 1810 in Dublin, Ireland. His family later emigrated to the United States and settled in the state of Louisiana .

As a result of the growing tensions between the northern and southern states of the United States, the Confederate States of America emerged in 1861. Sparrow was then elected as a deputy from Louisiana to the Provisional Confederate Congress, where he served between 1861 and 1862. Then he was elected to the newly created Senate of the Confederate States . There he served in the 1st and 2nd Confederate Congress between 1862 and 1865.

Edward Sparrow died on July 4, 1882.

Edward Sparrow was the richest man in the Confederate government. The 1860 Census puts his fortune at $ 1.2 million, compared to a comparable $ 1 billion today.
