Balance from Nabo Gaß

Nabo Gaß 'free works are mostly multilayer glass pictures. The stained glass lies between differently sand-blasted panes. Picture themes can thus overlap and create an analogy to complex trains of thought. Nabo Gaß draws the subjects for the glass adventure worlds from everyday life. The art and architecture historian Dr. In the magazine SchottSolutions 2007, Hans-Peter Schwanke describes the motifs "as partly virtuoso expressive forms that oscillate between representationalism and abstraction."

Nabo Gaß has been designing the facades of glass industrial buildings since 2000.

technology

In order to be able to implement his ideas in glass, Nabo Gaß has developed new glass design techniques: in 1989 a photographic sandblasting technique, in 1994 painting with colored glass powder. In 2000 he received the Glasstec Düsseldorf innovation award for his patented glass splitter technology for designing glass facades in connection with photovoltaics. In 2011/12, a glass high-bay warehouse was built according to his design, which is self-supporting in terms of energy. The folded solar membrane he designed made of photovoltaic modules and crash glass generates such a high level of energy efficiency that the building is certified gold by the DGNB (German Society for Sustainable Building).

Quotes

“No other material allows so skillfully and sensitively to realize what we commonly understand by ambivalence. Glass is not only transparent, enables perspective and vision, it also connects different levels and visualises the complexity and diversity of life. ”Nabo Gaß, 2008

"The traditional panel painting is a closed world in itself. It is an independent reality. The glass painting seeks to confront its surroundings. It is not able to seal itself off. It allows views through, places itself between the viewer and the through the image visible background. It becomes one with its surroundings. " Nabo Gass, 2010

“The convincing power of Nabo Gaß's work manifests itself in the symbiosis that glass and painting enter into. The previous terms in art literature no longer apply here. What we see in his works are neither paintings transferred onto glass, nor is it painted glass. Rather, it's painting with glass. A new quality in art emerges here. ”Andreas Greulich, gallery owner and art historian

“The works of Nabo Gaß are sophistic parables of being. The superficial and the profound are closely related to one another with changing emphases and interpretational changes of direction. ”“ His works reach beyond the boundaries of the phenomenologically comprehensible and are an attempt to get hold of the duality of life and to use the artistic medium of glass to penetrate areas that must remain hidden from the common panel painter. ”Dorothee Baer-Bogenschütz, journalist and art historian

“The glass works of art by Nabo Gaß offer rich worlds of experience. The core of his very specific contribution to contemporary glass art consists of a plea for differentiated approaches. Gaß endeavors not to lose sight of the clear, at the same time critical view of the essentials as well as the dialogue about it. " Hans-Peter Schwanke, art and architecture historian
