history

In the amendment to the Reichsgewerbeordnung dated June 24, 1897, the following was standardized: “Chambers of crafts are to be set up to represent the interests of your district.” As early as November 1900, 71 chambers of crafts were organized in the “German Chamber of Crafts and Commerce”. On May 15, 1900, the chamber was founded in the constituent general assembly of the Wiesbaden Chamber of Crafts. At that time, the chamber area also included the Main-Taunus district, the then Obertaunus district and the city of Frankfurt. In April 1942, against the resistance of the skilled trades and other economic groups, the chambers of crafts and the chambers of industry and commerce were merged to form district economic chambers. At the end of the war, on April 16, 1945, at the request of various master craftsmen, master painter Karl Schöppler was appointed acting president of the Wiesbaden Chamber of Crafts. He was confirmed by the Prime Minister on June 14, 1945. The division into zones of occupation changed the chamber area in the direction of today's layout, unless the amalgamation of circles in the so-called "Third Reich" had already brought about changes.
