history

In 1980 the German Bundestag decided to support contemporary visual arts with five million marks. In the same year, the art fund was founded, initially as a non-profit association, by the BBK , the German Association of Artists , the GEDOK , the BVDG , the Bild-Kunst collecting society and the artist Rune Mields . The international artists' committee and the working group of German art associations later also joined the association. In 2000, it was converted into a foundation under the full name “Foundation Art Fund for the Promotion of Contemporary Fine Art”. The former members of the association, with the exception of Rune Mields, became members of the board of trustees . In 2005, the Federal Cultural Foundation also joined the Board of Trustees.
