Gottfried Cundisius
Gottfried Cundisius (born September 11, 1599 in Radeberg ; † July 25, 1651 in Jena ) was a German Lutheran theologian.
Life
Cundisius was the son of the pastor Matthäus Cundisius, who later became superintendent in Pirna . Cundisius received his secondary education from May 2, 1614 at the State and Princely School of St. Afra in Meissen , where he stayed until 1618. In the same year he enrolled at the University of Leipzig , where he first completed the philosophical undergraduate degree in the liberal arts . In 1622 he acquired the degree of master's degree .
On December 6, 1627, he moved to the University of Wittenberg . On May 1, 1628 he was accepted there as an adjunct at the philosophical faculty and devoted himself to the study of theology in addition to his lectures. In 1629 he was ordained pastor in Geringswalde and in 1632 appointed superintendent in Leisnig . He went back to Wittenberg in order to fulfill his specific tasks according to the church regulations . Here he acquired the degree of licentiate on June 26, 1634 . On July 15, 1634, he and Gottfried Olearius received a doctorate in theology under Jakob Martini . In 1635 he became superintendent in Oschatz , in 1638 monastery superintendent in Merseburg . In 1643 he was appointed professor at the University of Jena , where in 1651 he suffered a heart attack in the pulpit and died. Cundisius also took part in the organizational tasks of the Salana and was rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semester of 1644 and in the winter semester of 1649 .
As a representative of Lutheran Orthodoxy, Cundisius was involved in the disputes of that time. He encouraged the students to become self-employed and disputed primarily over the letter to the Romans . Cundisius was well versed in all subject areas of theology, but placed special emphasis on dogmatics and symbolism . In general, he vehemently polemicized against the Catholic and Reformed Churches and, in particular, had arguments with Johann Philipp Pareus .
