In 1629 he became an adjunct of the philosophical faculty. Three years later, in 1633, after his ordination he worked briefly as a deacon in Wittenberg. There is also an extensive travel description, one of the earliest of its kind. The book is also a summary of older urban history sources. Above all, Johann Christoph von Dreyhaupt (1699–1768, description of the hall circle ) used Olearius' work as a basis for his own work.
