Clemens Brockhaus

Friedrich Clemens Brockhaus (born February 14, 1837 in Dresden , † November 10, 1877 in Leipzig ) was a German Lutheran theologian . He taught at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Clemens Brockhaus was the son of the orientalist Hermann Brockhaus and his wife Ottilie Wagner, a sister of Richard Wagner . Thus he was a grandson of the publisher Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus , and also a brother of the lawyer Friedrich Brockhaus .

Brockhaus studied theology at the universities of Jena and Leipzig. He received a degree in theology and a doctorate in philosophy. In 1860 he was employed as a catechist at St. Peter's Church in Leipzig ; later he became a preacher at the Johanniskirche .

In 1867 Brockhaus qualified as a professor for church history in Leipzig with his work Nicolai Cusani de concilii universalis potestate Sententia Explicatur . In the same year he appointed the theological faculty of lecturers . In 1873 he received an extraordinary professorship , which he held until his death in 1877 at the age of 40.
