Wilhelm Haan

Wilhelm Haan (born December 25, 1801 in Torgau , † May 31, 1884 in Dresden ) was a Protestant theologian , educator and non-fiction author.

Life

He was the son of the Torgau girls' school teacher and later Dresden professor Gottlieb Haan. Wilhelm Haan received his first lessons in his father's private educational establishment in Dresden. From 1816 to 1821 he attended the Kreuzschule there and then until 1825 the University of Leipzig , where he studied theology. Haan got his first job as a teacher at the Rathsfreischule in Leipzig. In 1826 he moved to Frauenstein in the Ore Mountains as rector . In 1832 he became a deacon in Waldheim . In 1839 Wilhelm Haan became pastor and superintendent in the city of Leisnig , where he worked well into old age. In 1884 he died in the Saxon residence city of Dresden.

Wilhelm Haan was a member of the Royal Antiquities Association in Dresden, an honorary member of the Luther Foundation in Leipzig and the Free High Foundation for Science, Art and Education in Frankfurt am Main, a corresponding member of the German Society of Leipzig and a member of the Museum of Ethnology in Leipzig .
