Johann Dürr (copper engraver)

Johann Dürr (* around 1600 in Augsburg ; † June 16, 1663 in Weimar ), pseudonym Augustanus , was a German engraver who worked in Thuringia in the second third of the 17th century and who participated in his work in Leipzig and at the Dresden court . There are currently 210 copper engravings by him, including numerous portraits and some landscapes, such as B. the family tree of Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony with the oldest view of Johanngeorgenstadt from 1657.

His son Ernst Caspar Dürr also worked as a copper engraver, coin die cutter (in the Dresden mint ) and medalist . Another son Johann Christoph Dürr (* 1648 in Weimar; † 1684 in Weimar) was mint master in the Weimar mint and in Erfurt. His pupils also included the engravers Johann Caspar Höckner (* 1629 in Weimar) and Christian Romstet .
