Frank Boblenz

Frank Boblenz (born November 24, 1957 in Kölleda ) is a German archivist , historian and author .

Boblenz studied from 1980 to 1984 and from 1986 to 1989 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and then received his doctorate in 1990 in Halle (Saale) . Between 1990 and 1993 he completed a postgraduate course in archival science at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Since 1990 he has been working as a scientific archivist and since 2002 as head of department in the Thuringian main state archive in Weimar .

Boblenz published many works on the history of Thuringia . His work focuses on the 16th and 17th centuries, Prussian Thuringia, the territorial situation in Thuringia and the history of archives and libraries. He is a member of the Historical Commission for Thuringia.

Boblenz was u. a. also known because he was one of the last visitors to the Duchess Anna Amalia Library in Weimar before the devastating fire broke out there on the evening of September 2, 2004. He is also one of those who first began to rescue the library holdings.
