history

As a predecessor building, a manor is mentioned in a document in 1283 on the site of today's castle , which was owned by the Polheimers. Around 1412, the Thalheim farm was named Erdingerhof after the new owners, the Erdinger merchant family from Wels. The castle, first mentioned in a document in 1577, was built by Bernhard Jörger von Tollet and made a noble residence by Emperor Rudolf II , which was exempt from all duties and taxes. Bernhard Jörger also laid out a first palace park . The Erdingerhof was now named Trauneckhof. In 1587 Bernhard Jörger sold the castle to Ludwig Althamer. His son sold it in 1643 to Matthias Castner from Sigmundslust Castle in Vomp .

In the 18th century, Traunegg was owned by the Auerspergian head caretaker of the Burgvogtei Wels, Andreas Edler von Renckh. In 1730 he expanded the manor house into a baroque palace. The stucco ceiling on the first floor of the building also dates from this period. Renck's descendants sold the property to Josef von Scharz in 1779. In the following years the owners changed frequently. Among them was the Upper Austrian governor, Baron Philipp von Skrbensky, in 1861 Count Wilhelm Spanocchi and in 1874 Baron Heinrich von und zu Franckenstein . A landscaped garden with partially terraced green areas was created under this . A wooden two-story veranda was built in front of the northeastern palace facade. An existing glass house of the palace gardening was demolished.

In 1925 the property passed to the Counts of Eltz , who remained owners of the castle until 1960. The property was sold to Josef Haid in 1959/60 for 2.1 million schillings. The new castle owner was not very interested in the listed building and endeavored to sell the land belonging to the property as building land. In 1988 the castle changed hands for 7.3 million schillings. At that time the building was in a desolate condition. Private investors had the palace renovated and set up 28 residential units in it, which are now rented out.

The three-storey building with baroque facades has a high hipped roof and is painted white. It is surrounded by a 7.5  hectare large park surrounded.

A watchtower at the foot of the Pfarrberg used to belong to the castle . This is still known today under the name "Binder in der Rondell", but was removed after a fire in 1844. A wayside shrine at the foot of the Kirchenberg is a reminder of this.
