The county is located in the extreme north of Kentucky, borders Ohio to the north and Indiana to the west , is separated from both by the Ohio River and has an area of ​​666 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water. Boone County was formed on December 13, 1798 from parts of Campbell County. It was named after the border guard Daniel Boone .

According to the 2000 census , Boone County had 85,991 people in 31,258 households and 23,443 families. The population density was 135 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.15 percent white, 1.52 percent African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 1.29 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.75 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.03 percent were descended from two or more races.
