Nicholas County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Carlisle .

The county is located in northeast Kentucky, about 45 km to the north from the state of Ohio , and has an area of 510 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Robertson County , Fleming County , Bath County , Bourbon County, and Harrison County .
history
Nicholas County was formed on December 18, 1799 from parts of Bourbon County and Mason County. It was named after George Nicholas , an attorney general.
A total of twelve buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of October 19, 2017).

Nicholas County had a population of 6,813 people as of the 2000 census . 103 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 2,710 households and 1,951 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.3 percent white, 0.8 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.2 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.5 percent of the population.
Of the 2,710 households, 31.5 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.5 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, 28.0 percent were non-families, 24.6 percent were single households and 12.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.6 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.5 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 89.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 29,886 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 35,491 USD. Males had a median income of $ 26,960 versus $ 21,102 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,880. 9.7 percent of families and 13.2 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 14.2 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 16.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
