Georgetown is a city of 29,098 residents in the state of Kentucky in the United States .
The city is located in Scott County and is home to Georgetown College . The city's population growth began to surge in the mid-1980s when Toyota built an engine manufacturing factory there in 1988. Georgetown is also the training site of the Cincinnati Bengals' NFL team .

history
Pastor Elijah Craig and other members of the Virginia church were the first residents of Georgetown in late 1785. The city is named after George Washington . On December 16, 1790, the village was registered as a city. Craig founded a factory that was responsible for the manufacture of cloth and paper. In 1789 he founded a distillery and a classical school in the city , which formed the basis for Georgetown College.

According to the 2000 census , Georgetown has 18,080 people in 6,703 households and 4,618 families. The population density is 508.7 people / km². The white population is most strongly represented at 88.68%, followed by the Afro-American population with 8.01%.

Georgetown College is a liberal arts college in the center of the city.
