John McCracken Robinson
John McCracken Robinson (born April 10, 1794 in Georgetown , Kentucky , † April 25, 1843 in Ottawa , Illinois ) was an American lawyer and politician who represented the state of Illinois in the US Senate .
After attending public schools, John Robinson graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington . He then studied law, became a member of the bar and began working as a lawyer in Carmi (Illinois) in 1818 . Height of his legal career was the appointment as Judge Supreme Court of Illinois. In the state militia he rose to the rank of general .
In December 1830, Robinson was elected to the US Senate for Democrats . There he took the place of the late John McLean , who was initially followed by the acting David J. Baker . In 1835 Robinson also decided to be re-elected, so that he remained in the Senate until March 3, 1841; in the 1840 election he did not run. During his time in Washington he was, among other things, chairman of the Committee on Engrossed Bills , a forerunner of the Committee on Rules and Administration .
Robinson was again associate judge in the Supreme Court of Illinois in 1843 , but died just two months after taking office.
