Albert Jarvis Hopkins (born August 15, 1846 in Cortland , DeKalb County , Illinois , †  August 23, 1922 in Aurora , Illinois) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Illinois in both chambers of Congress .

After attending public schools Albert Hopkins made his in 1870 graduated from college in Hillsdale ( Michigan ). He studied law , was inducted into the bar in 1871, and began practicing in Aurora. From 1872 to 1876 he held the office of district attorney in Kane County .

Politically, Hopkins was first active in the context of the presidential election in 1884 , when he was a member of the Electoral College for the Republicans . The election was not won by James G. Blaine , who was victorious in Illinois , but by Democrat Grover Cleveland . The following year Hopkins was elected to the United States House of Representatives as the successor to the late Reuben Ellwood , where he remained after eight confirmations from December 7, 1885 to March 3, 1903.

Albert Hopkins did not run for re-election after the Republicans had put him up as a candidate for the US Senate . He won the election and served as a senator until 1909; in the attempt to re-elect, he failed because of his inner-party opponent William Lorimer . As a result he worked again as a lawyer in Chicago and in Aurora, where he died in August 1922.
