Sean Casten
Sean Thomas Casten (* 23. November 1971 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and entrepreneurs in the energy sector. He has been a member of the United States House of Representatives for the sixth congressional electoral district of Illinois since January 2019 .
Life
Casten graduated from Middlebury College with a bachelor's degree in microbiology and biochemistry . In 1997 he also received a Masters degree from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth University . After working as a consultant at Arthur D. Little , Casten was Managing Director of Turbosteam Corporation, which manufactures and installs systems with combined heat and power . In 2006 he co-founded Recycled Energy Development in Illinois, which develops and operates plants that utilize waste heat. The company was sold in 2016. He was also active in professional associations.
Casten is married and has two children. The family lives in Downers Grove .
politics
In the 2018 US House of Representatives election , Casten ran for Illinois' sixth district against long-time incumbent Republican Peter Roskam .
In the democratic primaries , Casten was the most successful of six candidates with 29.5% of the vote. In the general election he got 53.6% of the vote against Roskam, who received 46.7%. He took up his mandate on January 3, 2019.
