George Peter Foster

George Peter Foster (born April 3, 1858 in Dover , Morris County , New Jersey , †  November 11, 1928 in Wheaton , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1905 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1867 George Foster came to Chicago where he attended public schools. He later studied at the University of Chicago there . After studying law at the Union College of Law and being admitted to the bar in 1882, he began working in this profession in Chicago. Between 1891 and 1899 he was Justice of the Peace in South Chicago . From 1893 to 1899 he also worked as a police judge. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1898 Foster was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Republican Hugh R. Belknap on March 4, 1899 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1905 . Since 1903 he represented there as the successor to James McAndrews the fourth district of his state. In 1904 he was not re-elected.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, George Foster practiced law again. From 1912 to 1922, he served as Assistant Corporation Counsel to the legal counsel of the City of Chicago. He died in Wheaton on November 11, 1928 and was buried in Chicago.
