Edward Y. Rice

Edward Young Rice (born February 8, 1820 in Russellville , Logan County , Kentucky , †  April 16, 1883 in Hillsboro , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Rice enjoyed a good education. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1844, he began to work in Hillsboro in this profession. In 1847 he was a county recorder in the local Montgomery County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives in 1849 and 1850 . He was then until 1852 a judge in Montgomery County. From 1853 to 1857 he held the post of Master in Chancery . From 1857 to 1871 he served as a judge in the 18th District of Illinois. He was also a member of an assembly to revise the state constitution in 1869 and 1870.

In the congressional elections of 1870 Rice was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Albert G. Burr on March 4, 1871 . Since he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party in 1872, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1873 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Edward Rice practiced law again. He died in Hillsboro on April 16, 1883.
