Russellville is the capital of Logan County in the southwest of the US state Kentucky . According to the 2010 population census, the city had 6,947 inhabitants.

history

Russellville was founded in 1810. During the Civil War , Kentucky tried to maintain its neutrality by proclamation on May 20, 1861 . When southern troops invaded south and east Kentucky, supporters of the Confederation organized a meeting in Russelville on November 18, 1861, which elected a Confederate governor in George W. Johnson . A few days later, the Confederate government had to flee to Hopkinsville. However, the majority in Kentucky sided with the Union after Governor Beriah Magoffin resigned .
