Robert MA Hawk

Robert Moffett Allison Hawk (born April 23, 1839 in Rushville , Hancock County , Indiana , †  June 29, 1882 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1882 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Hawk and his parents came to Carroll County in Illinois in 1844 . He attended public schools in his home country and Eureka College . He also studied law, but without ever working as a lawyer. During the civil war he served in the Union Army , where he rose to a major. In 1865 he moved to Mount Carroll , where he worked in agriculture. He was also employed as a clerk at the local district court between 1865 and 1879 .

Politically, Hawak joined the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1878 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the fifth constituency of Illinois, where he succeeded Horatio C. Burchard on March 4, 1879 . After re-election, he could remain in Congress until his death on June 29, 1882 . After that, after a special election, his mandate fell to his party colleague Robert R. Hitt .
