Judith Borg Biggert (* 15. August 1937 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . She was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2013 .

Career

Judith Gail Borg, her maiden name, attended New Trier High School in Winnetka and studied at Stanford University in California until 1959 . This was followed by a law degree at Northwestern University in Evanston until 1963 . In 1963 and 1964 she worked for federal judge Luther Merritt Swygert .

Between 1983 and 1986, Biggert headed the Board of Education at Hinsdale High School , of which she had been a member since 1978. Between 1993 and 1998 she was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives .

In the 1998 election , Biggert was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th Congressional District of Illinois , where on January 3, 1999 she succeeded Harris W. Fawell . After six re-elections, she was able to exercise her mandate in Congress until January 3, 2013. In the 2012 election she was defeated by Democrat Bill Foster with 42 to 58 percent of the vote.

Biggert was most recently a member of the Education and Labor Committee , the Finance Committee, and the Science, Space and Technology Committee, as well as a total of six sub-committees. She was co-chair of the Caucus on Women's Issues and belonged within the party to the moderate Republican Main Street Partnership .

Judy Biggert is married and has four children. The family lives privately in Hinsdale.
