Albert P. Forsythe

Albert Palaska Forsythe (born May 24, 1830 in New Richmond , Clermont County , Ohio , †  September 2, 1906 in Independence , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1881 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Albert Forsythe attended public schools in his home country and then Asbury University in Greencastle ( Indiana ), which later became DePauw University . For the next eight years he worked as a traveling preacher for the Methodist Church . During the Civil War he served as a first lieutenant in an Indiana infantry regiment in the Union Army . In 1865 he moved to Illinois, where he became involved in the farming movement. He ran the State Grange of Illinois for six years . Politically, he joined the Greenback Party .

In the congressional elections of 1878 Forsythe was elected in the 15th constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded the Democrat John R. Eden on March 4, 1879 . Since he was not confirmed in 1880, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1881 . In 1882 Forsythe moved to nearby Liberty , Kansas, where he worked in agriculture. Between 1886 and 1892 he was regent of the Kansas Agricultural College . He died in Independence on September 2, 1906.
