Charles Martin

Charles Martin (born May 20, 1856 near Ogdensburg , New York , †  October 28, 1917 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American politician . In 1917 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1860, Charles Martin came to Chicago with his parents, where he later attended public schools. He then worked as a contract partner for sewer works. He later became a coal dealer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1894 and 1915 he sat several times on the Chicago City Council.

In the 1916 congressional election , Martin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded James T. McDermott on March 4, 1917 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on October 28 of the same year. During his time as Congressman, the American entry into the First World War took place in April 1917 . Martin's mandate went to John W. Rainey after a special election .
