Donald A. Manzullo (born March 24, 1944 in Rockford , Illinois ) is an American politician . From 1993 to 2013 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Donald Manzullo attended Auburn High School in Rockford until 1962 and then studied at the American University in Washington, DC until 1967. After completing a law degree at Marquette University and being admitted to the bar in 1970, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1990 he ran unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the congressional elections. At that time he also became a member of the Republican National Committee .

In the 1992 congressional election , Manzullo was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded John W. Cox on January 3, 1993 . After nine re-elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2013. In 2012 he lost his party's primaries to Adam Kinzinger and subsequently had to leave parliament. During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . From 1987 to 1991 he was chairman of the Committee on Small Business . Most recently, he was a member of the Finance Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee as well as a total of five sub-committees. He was also a member of six Congressional Caucuses . He is considered very conservative.
