David D. Phelps

David Dwain Phelps (born October 26, 1947 in Eldorado , Illinois ) is an American politician . Between 1999 and 2003 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Phelps attended Eldorado Township High School and then studied at Southern Illinois University until 1969 . Then he worked as a teacher and in school administration. Between 1980 and 1984 he was employed by the district administration in Saline County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1984 and 1998 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives .

In the 1998 congressional election , Phelps was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Glenn Poshard on January 3, 1999 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2003 . During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and the beginning of the Iraq war fell .

In 2002 he was not re-elected. Today he works for the Illinois Department of Transportation. David Phelps is also active as a composer and has performed as a gospel singer.
