Harry H. Mason

Harry Howland Mason (born December 16, 1873 in McLean County , Illinois , †  March 10, 1946 in Springfield , Illinois) was an American politician . From 1935 to 1937 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his youth, Harry Mason moved with his parents to Delavan , Tazewell County , where he attended public schools. He then worked in the newspaper and publishing business. From 1903 he lived in Pawnee . He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1930 to 1933 he was on the staff of Congressman James Earl Major . From 1933 to 1934 he was a treasurer in the administration of Sangamon County .

In the 1934 congressional election , Mason was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 21st  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded the resigned James Earl Major on January 3, 1935. Since he refused to run again in 1936, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until January 3, 1937 . During this time, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Harry Mason returned to working in the newspaper and publishing industry. He died in Springfield on March 10, 1946 and was buried in Delavan.
