John N. Erlenborn (1981)

John Neal Erlenborn (born February 8, 1927 in Chicago , Illinois , †  October 30, 2005 in Warrenton , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1985 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Erlenborn attended the Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst until 1944 . He then briefly studied at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana . Between 1944 and 1946, also during the final phase of World War II , he served in the US Navy . He then graduated from the University of Illinois . After a subsequent law degree at Loyola University in Chicago and his admission to the bar in 1949, he began to work in this profession. From 1950 to 1952 he was also the assistant prosecutor in DuPage County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1957 and 1965 he was a member of the State House of Representatives .

In the 1964 congressional elections , Erlenborn was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Elmer J. Hoffman on January 3, 1965 . After nine re-elections, he was able to complete ten legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1985 . Since 1983 he represented there as the successor to Robert McClory the 13th district of his state. His time in Congress included the Vietnam War , the final phase of the civil rights movement and, in 1974, the Watergate affair . In 1984 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Erlenborn practiced as a lawyer again. He became a faculty member at Georgetown University in Washington. Between 1989 and 2001 he was a board member of Legal Services Corporation , of which he was interim president from 2001 to 2003. John Erlenborn died on October 30, 2005 in Warrenton.
