William E. Hull
William Edgar Hull (born January 13, 1866 in Lewistown , Illinois , † May 30, 1942 in Toronto , Canada ) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1933 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Hull attended public schools in his home country including Lewiston High School . He then graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville . He later became president of Manito Chemical Co. From 1898 to 1906 he was a post office owner in Peoria . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1916 and 1920 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions . He was also a board member of the Highway Improvement Association in Illinois .
In the 1922 congressional election , Hull was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Clifford C. Ireland on March 4, 1923 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . During this time, in 1929, the world economic crisis began . In 1932 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.
After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, William Hull resumed his previous activities. He died in a Toronto hospital on May 30, 1942 while visiting Canada and was buried in Lewistown, his birthplace.
