Charles M. Thomson

Charles Marsh Thomson (born February 13, 1877 in Chicago , Illinois , †  December 30, 1943 there ) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1915 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Thomson attended his home public schools and the Chicago Manual Training School . He then studied at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington ( Pennsylvania ). After a subsequent law degree at Northwestern University in Evanston and his admission to the bar in 1902, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career. He was elected to the Chicago City Council in 1908, 1910, and 1912. Politically, he joined the Progressive Party founded by former US President Theodore Roosevelt .

In the 1912 congressional elections , Thomson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Republican George Edmund Foss on March 4, 1913 . Since he was not confirmed in 1914, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1915 . Between 1915 and 1927, Charles Thomson worked as a judge in various courts. After that he practiced as a lawyer again. From 1933 to 1939 he was a curator of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad ; and thereafter he held the same position until his death with the Chicago & North Western Railroad .
