Edward Rowan Finnegan (born June 5, 1905 in Chicago , Illinois , †  February 2, 1971 there ) was an American politician . From 1961 to 1964 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Finnegan attended schools in his homeland. He then studied at Loyola University . After a subsequent law degree at Northwestern University and his admission to the bar in 1931, he began working in this profession in Chicago. In the years that followed, he became an assistant district attorney in Cook County and was a legal advisor to the City of Chicago. In 1939 he applied unsuccessfully for the post of city judge. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1960 congressional elections , Finnegan was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the twelfth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded the late Charles A. Boyle on January 3, 1961 . After a re-election in the ninth district of his state as the successor to Sidney R. Yates , he could remain in Congress until his resignation on December 6, 1964 .

Finnegan's resignation came after his appointment as District Judge in Cook County. He held this office until his death on February 2, 1971 in Chicago.
