Hamilton K. Wheeler

Hamilton Kinkaid Wheeler (born August 5, 1848 in Ballston , Saratoga County , New York , †  July 19, 1918 in Kankakee , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1852, Hamilton Wheeler came to Illinois' Kankakee County with his parents . In his new home he attended both public and private schools. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1871, he began to work in Kankakee in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1884 he was a member of the Illinois Senate .

In the congressional elections of 1892 Wheeler was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Democrat Herman W. Snow on March 4, 1893 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1894, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1895 . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Wheeler practiced again as a lawyer. In the years 1896 and 1900 he was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions , at each of which William McKinley was nominated as a presidential candidate. He died in Kankakee on July 19, 1918.
