Robin Lynne Kelly (born April 30, 1956 in New York City ) is an American politician . She has represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives since 2013 .

Career

Robin Kelly attended Bradley University in Peoria until 1982 . In 2004 she was still studying philosophy at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb . She first worked as a nurse in a hospital in Peoria and then as Director of the Crisis Nursery . She also held other positions in the medical service in the 1980s. Politically, she joined the Democratic Party . Between 1992 and 2006, she was the Head of Matteson City Public Relations . From 2002 to 2007 she was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives , where she was a member of seven committees. Between 2007 and 2010, she headed the staff of State Treasurer of Illinois, Alexi Giannoulias . In 2010 she ran for the office of Treasury Secretary herself, but lost to Republican Dan Rutherford . She then worked as a CAO in the Cook County administration .

Following the resignation of MP Jesse Jackson Jr. , who embezzled campaign funds, Kelly was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives' successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC on April 9, 2013, in the due by-election Took office. In the primary of her party, she had clearly prevailed against former congresswoman Debbie Halvorson . She is or was a member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Foreign Affairs Committee. She was previously a member of the Science, Space and Technology Committee . After two re-elections so far in 2014 and 2016, she can presumably remain in Congress until January 3, 2019, with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.

Robin Kelly is married and lives privately in Matteson.
