Harris W. Fawell (born March 25, 1929 in West Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American politician . Between 1985 and 1999 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harris Fawell attended West Chicago Community High School and then between 1947 and 1949 North Central College in Naperville . After studying law at the Chicago-Kent College of Law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. Fawell practiced the profession of attorney between 1954 and 1984. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1968 and 1988 he was a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions , on which Richard Nixon and George Bush were nominated as presidential candidates. Between 1963 and 1977, Fawell was a member of the Illinois Senate . In 1976 he unsuccessfully sought a judge's office on the Supreme Court of Illinois . From 1967 to 1977 he was also a member of the Illinois Commission on Children .

In the 1984 congressional election , Fawell was elected to the 13th  constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded John N. Erlenborn on January 3, 1985 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1999 . He was considered conservative on questions of budget policy and a moderate member of parliament on social issues.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Harris Fawell no longer appeared politically.
