Herman W. Snow

Herman Wilber Snow (born July 3, 1836 in Michigan City , Indiana , †  August 25, 1914 in Kankakee , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his youth, Herman Snow moved with his parents to Madisonville , Kentucky , where he attended public schools. He then settled in Sheldon (Illinois) and worked there as a teacher for several years. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. During the civil war , Snow served in various units in the Union Army , in which he rose to lieutenant colonel. After completing his military service, he taught at Chicago High School for three years . He then returned to Sheldon, where he worked in the banking industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1872 and 1874 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives .

In the congressional election of 1890 Snow was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Lewis E. Payson on March 4, 1891 . Since he was not confirmed in 1892, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1893 . After the end of his time as a member of Parliament, he held the House of Representatives between 1893 and 1895 as the successor to Samuel S. Yoder from the function of Sergeant at Arms . He then moved to Kanakee, where he worked in banking. He died in this city on August 25, 1914.
