Edward John King

Edward John King (born July 1, 1867 in Springfield , Massachusetts , †  February 17, 1929 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1929 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1880 Edward King moved to Galesburg , Illinois with his parents . He attended the public schools in his respective homeland as well as Knox College in Galesburg. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1893, he began to work in this profession in Galesburg. In 1893 and 1894 he was the legal representative of his hometown. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1907 and 1914 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives .

In the 1914 congressional elections , King was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 15th  constituency of Illinois, where he succeeded Democrat Stephen A. Hoxworth on March 4, 1915 . After six re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on February 17, 1929 . During this time the First World War fell . In addition, the 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified in 1919 and 1920 . From 1921 to 1927, King chaired the Department of Agriculture's Expenditure Control Committee. At the time of his death, he had already been re-elected for the next legislative term.
