Charles Eugene Fuller (born March 31, 1849 in Belvidere , Illinois , †  June 25, 1926 in Rochester , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1926 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

Charles Fuller attended public schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1870, he began to work in this profession in Belvidere. In 1875 and 1876 he was also a city lawyer there. From 1876 to 1878 he served as the prosecutor in Boone County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1878 and 1882 he was a member of the Illinois Senate ; from 1882 to 1888 he was a member of the House of Representatives of his state. Then he was again a member of the Senate until 1892. During the Spanish-American War he set up a regiment of the state militia and became its commander as a colonel. From 1897 to 1903, Fuller was a judge in the 17th District of Illinois. He was also Vice President of the People's Bank of Belvidere for many years .

In the 1902 congressional elections , Fuller was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the twelfth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Joseph Gurney Cannon on March 4, 1903 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1913 . In 1912 he was defeated by William H. Hinebaugh of the Progressive Party . Two years later, Charles Fuller succeeded in re-entering Congress, where he replaced Hinebaugh on March 4, 1915. After five re-elections, he could remain in parliament until his death. During this time the First World War fell . In addition, the 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified in 1919 and 1920 . From 1919 Fuller was chairman of the committee on disability benefits. He died in a Rochester hospital on June 25, 1926 and was buried in his birthplace, Belvidere.
