Belvidere (pronounced bɛlvɨˌdɪər) is a city and administrative seat of Boone County in the north of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000 Belvidere had 20,820 inhabitants, an estimate in 2005 showed a population of 24,593.
Belvidere is part of the Rockford metropolitan area .
history
The US Post Office Belvidere is a historic building in the center of Belvidere. It was built in 1911 and was listed on May 11, 2000, with the number 00000473 on the National Register of Historic Places .

The city extends over an area of 23.2 km², which consists exclusively of land.
Belvidere is located on the Kishwaukee River in central northern Illinois near the Wisconsin border .
After Rockford are of Belvidere 21.5 km to the west. Chicago is 117 km southeast, Milwaukee is 142 km northeast, and Wisconsin's capital, Madison , is 124 km north. It is 124 km west via Rockford to the banks of the Mississippi River .

In the 2000 census, the population was 20,820. These were distributed over 7,531 households in 5,324 families. The population density was 886.3 / km². There were 7,970 buildings, which corresponded to a building density of 339.3 / km².
