Lewis L. Boyer

Lewis Leonard Boyer (born May 19, 1886 in Richfield , Adams County , Illinois , †  March 12, 1944 in Quincy , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lewis Boyer attended public schools in his home country. Between 1904 and 1915 he worked as a teacher in various cities in his home country. At the same time he studied construction. From 1915 he lived in Quincy. Between 1915 and 1936 he headed the Adams County Roads Department. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1936 congressional election , Boyer was elected to the 15th  constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded J. Leroy Adair on January 3, 1937 . Since he was not confirmed in 1938, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1939 . During this time, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt .

In 1940 and 1942 Lewis Boyer ran unsuccessfully for the Illinois Senate . He died in Quincy on March 12, 1944.
