Benjamin Taylor Cable (born August 11, 1853 in Georgetown , Kentucky , †  December 13, 1923 in Rock Island , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1856, Benjamin Cable moved with his parents to Rock Island, Illinois, where he attended public schools. He then graduated from Racine College in Wisconsin . This was followed by a study at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor until 1876 . Cable then worked in agriculture and various craft trades. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1892 he became a member of the Democratic National Committee .

In the congressional election of 1890 , Cable was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican William H. Gest on March 4, 1891 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1892, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1893 .

In July 1904, Cable took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis , at which Alton B. Parker was nominated as a presidential candidate. Otherwise he worked in agriculture. He was co-owner of a ranch in San Antonio ( Texas ). Benjamin Cable died on December 13, 1923 in Rock Island.
