Claude V. Parsons

Claude VanCleve Parsons (born October 7, 1895 in McCormick , Pope County , Illinois , †  May 23, 1941 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1930 and 1941 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Claude Parsons attended the public schools in his home country and then taught himself until 1922. In 1923 he graduated from the Southern Illinois State Normal School at Carbondale . Between 1922 and 1930, Parsons served as a school councilor in Pope County. At the same time he was also a newspaper publisher and editor. He also embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

After the resignation of Republican MP Thomas Sutler Williams , Parsons was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the by-election due for the 24th seat of Illinois, where he took up his new mandate on November 4, 1930. After five re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1941 . During this time, most of the federal government's New Deal laws were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . In 1935, the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.

In 1940, Claude Parsons was not re-elected. He worked for the United States Housing Authority from February 14, 1941 until his death on May 23 of the same year .
