William A. Rowan

William A. Rowan (born November 24, 1882 in Chicago , Illinois , †  May 31, 1961 ) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1947 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Rowan attended St. Patrick Grade School and St. Patrick High School and then studied at the University of Chicago . He then worked in a steel factory for some time. Between 1907 and 1927 Rowan worked in the newspaper industry. Among other things, he became a publisher and editor of a newspaper in Chicago. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1927 and 1942 he was a member of the Chicago City Council.

In the 1942 congressional election , Rowan was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Raymond S. McKeough on January 3, 1943 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1947 . These were shaped by the events of the Second World War and its consequences.

In 1946, William Rowan was not re-elected. Between 1947 and 1953 he was the auditor ( Comptroller ) of the customs authorities in Chicago. He died in Chicago on May 31, 1961.
